Vintage industrial iron bowls are hard to find.  And if you can uncover one that is old and rusted all the better!  I don’t know about you but I am over the wood bowl on the coffee table routine, way too Pottery Barn.

I’m not sure what these industrial bowls were used for but I think they would look great in the home, on a coffee table of course.  Rusted iron has great texture and mixes things up, particularly on a wood table.  You can put cool things in these bowls but I think they are better off just left alone.  And please, put the rustoleum away!

It all started with a rock. No, you’re not at the beach.  But this is one big rock and those are real barnacles.  Who would have thought to make a chandelier out of barnacles?

Not everything has to look like it came out of a Pottery Barn catalog.  This chandelier is unique made out of barnacles and shells.  It would look great in a bathroom or a beach style indoor porch off the back of your home.  So next time you go to pick out a chandelier for your home, think outside the box, or should I say outside the rock!

Industrial metal lighting has a look all its own.  You can’t mistake it for those lamps that used to sit on each side of your mother’s sofa.  And there is definitely no plastic wrap on these industrial lamp shades.

The shape of these metal lamps is unique because they served a purpose.  They were meant to work.  Their long necks were meant to stretch over work areas and they rotated sideways, up or down, any which way you moved.  There were no 3 way soft light bulbs either.  Industrial lighting was there to do just that, provide ample light for you to do your work.

Now we appreciate the hard work these industrial lights put in and the hard natural materials they were made from.  Heavy iron and metal now worn to their natural patina.  Enjoy the photos, the future is bright!

It doesn’t have to be antique to be good.  Sometimes a reproduction can look just as old but function as new.  This vintage style wood desk has cool angled drawers, small cubby holes and a great wood finish.

And what would a wood desk be without a hard working industrial lamp.  Made of solid metal, it also looks vintage but functions as new.  So put them both to work and get reading or writing.  Wait, does anyone do that anymore?

We’re not Pottery Barn, shop and compare

This Swedish bench has all the right ingredients, solid wood, distressed paint and burlap upholstery.  Made during the Gustavian period, circa 1790, this is Sweden’s version of a farmhouse bench or sofa.

This bench has detailed wood carvings throughout and I am crazy about the original paint that is now distressed from years of family service.  It’s one big sofa that’s been reupholstered in good old burlap to maintain that vintage feel and all natural style.  Now add one tall Swedish Gustavian clock and you’ve got real style circa 2009.

Odds are that somewhere in your home you have a floor lamp.  And even better odds that you have several table lamps.  But have you ever seen a table or floor chandelier?  It’s like candy on a stick.  Add some rusted metal with some shiny crystals and I am hooked on these crystal chandeliers.

Forget that chandeliers can only hang from the ceiling or that you can enjoy them only on special occasions in the dining room.  Put them on an end table or stand them in a corner so that you can enjoy your crystal chandelier every day of the week.  I would really like one of these chandeliers on my end table next to the sofa but do you think you could read a good book with them?
