You probably recognize these skeleton images and just associate them with Halloween.  But they are actually over a century old and we can thank one of the first humorists and political satirists of modern art, Jose Guadalupe Posada (1852-1913).  A poor Mexican printmaker turned artist, Posada depicted the attitudes of the working class and the social inequities of his time.

One of his most famous works, La Catrina, a skeleton dressed as a wealthy socialite is recognized world-wide.  And as famous as his work became, Posada was born poor and he died poor, what a social injustice!  Have a Happy Halloween!

This price is not scary!

It was the painted wood ladders that first caught my attention.  It’s fall and that means great outdoor plants and vibrant colors.  It’s a great time of year to be outside and take it all in.  Looking closer there were galvanized steel containers and even a cool old wood box.  So check out the mums, peppers and orange berries.

Would you believe that these ottomans were once coffee bean bags?  One of a kind jute coffee bags have been repurposed by Gus Modern Furniture into really cool ottomans for everyday living.  I think the mix of texture with wood or leather furniture is a great style combination.

I love these ottomans for their uniqueness, natural fabrics and their repurposed life.  Each one reflects the actual logo and markings of the original coffee bean bag.  Where is Juan Valdez when you need him?

How’s this for nostalgia.  Remember going to the barbershop?  Well maybe the guys do, the girls went to the beauty parlor.  But I am certain that everyone has an image of the old fashioned barbershop.  It is the ultimate in vintage Americana and is symbolic of our childhood years when things were so much simpler.

Even Norman Rockwell, icon of American art, captured the barbershop in his still popular drawings.  And if you’re scratching your head as to who is Norman Rockwell, google him.  Enjoy the trip to the barbershop, I went every two weeks!

Popular as ever, I came across a great selection of vintage industrial factory carts.  I like this collection of factory carts, bins and tables because they still have some of the original colorful paint on them.  Some carts are multi-tiered and some combine metal and natural worn wood.

The distressed wood shows the years of hard labor these industrial tables clocked in.  And they are still going strong today, although re-purposed for a more relaxing lifestyle in your home or mine.
